At its 98th plenary meeting, on 27 May 2005, the General Assembly, on the proposal of the Secretary-General, decided to elect Mr. António Manuel de Oliveira GUTERRES as United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for a period of five years beginning on 15 June 2005 and ending on 14 June 2010.1
