Armenia

At the end of 2021, Armenia hosted 35,801 persons of concern (including 3,434 refugees, 31,299 persons in a refugee-like situation, 198 asylum-seekers, and 870 stateless persons). In the case of asylum-seekers, Iran, Iraq, and Syria were the top countries of origin in 2021.

The majority (26,725) of persons in a refugee-like situation were displaced as a result of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and residing on the territory of Armenia. In 2021, UNHCR assisted 4,572 persons displaced from Syria residing in Armenia.

UNHCR Armenia is focused on addressing the humanitarian needs and promoting the integration of the displaced population who have sought protection in Armenia. In its 30 years of presence in Armenia, UNHCR has supported the Government in jointly achieving progress in terms of legislative reforms, establishing asylum procedures, integration of displaced populations, and humanitarian response activities.
