Chad-Darfur Humanitarian Crisis
The UN refugee agency is battling the elements, massive logistical obstacles and daunting security challenges to help hundreds of thousands of people uprooted by conflict in western Sudan's Darfur region and eastern Chad. As one sign of the continuing seriousness with which UNHCR views the crisis in this area, High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres visited eastern Chad in December 2006 and West Darfur in April 2007, while UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie returned to Chad in early 2007 to see how the situation had deteriorated in the region since her last visit in 2004.
