UNHCR Records of the Central Registry

The Central Registry was responsible for the opening and routing of correspondence and for the filing of working papers and official records from 1951 to 1994. These records document the full range of UNHCR activities for nearly a half a century and as such provide an indispensable introduction to the work of the organization.

Subgroup: Administration and Finance Series: Privileges and immunities Registry Code: 2/3/20 (Registry, 1951-1970) Dates: 08-1951/09-1969 Extent: 24 cm of textual records Scope: Series consists of memoranda and correspondence with governments and UNHCR branch offices regarding the legal and diplomatic status of the branch offices and their personnel. Issues covered include reports on privileges and immunities granted by specific countries; questions of exemption from taxes, customs duties, residence permit fees, and national social insurance plans; reports from branch offices on meetings with government officials regarding privileges and immunities; and occasionally, negotiations with governments for the establishment of a branch office in a particular country.
