UNHCR Records of the Central Registry

The Central Registry was responsible for the opening and routing of correspondence and for the filing of working papers and official records from 1951 to 1994. These records document the full range of UNHCR activities for nearly a half a century and as such provide an indispensable introduction to the work of the organization.

Subgroup: Protection Series: Residence Registry Code: 6/5 (Registry, 1951-1970) Dates: 12-1950/03-1970 Extent: 7 cm of textual records Scope: Series consists of memoranda and correspondence regarding fees for residence permits; laws governing acquisition of legal right of residence; and imposition of residence (domiciliary) bans. Series also addresses the issue of residence permits for refugees who have residence in one country but travel to another to take up employment. Files are organized by country.
