UNHCR Records of the Central Registry

The Central Registry was responsible for the opening and routing of correspondence and for the filing of working papers and official records from 1951 to 1994. These records document the full range of UNHCR activities for nearly a half a century and as such provide an indispensable introduction to the work of the organization.

Subgroup: Protection Series: Expulsion Registry Code: 6/6 (Registry, 1951-1970) Dates: 10-1952/01-1970 Extent: 84 cm of textual records Scope: Series consists of memoranda and correspondence regarding the deportation/expulsion policies and procedures of individual countries; memoranda regarding intergovernmental agreements on refoulement, renvoi, and expulsion; reports on negotiations with governments on the role of UNHCR and its branch office in matters of deportation, expulsion, and eligibility of refugees; and discussion of eligibility procedures. The majority of the series relates to reports from branch offices on individual deportation/expulsion cases and incidents in their countries, reports on branch office intervention in individual cases, and advice and analysis from UNHCR Headquarters on individual cases.
