UNHCR Records of the Central Registry

The Central Registry was responsible for the opening and routing of correspondence and for the filing of working papers and official records from 1951 to 1994. These records document the full range of UNHCR activities for nearly a half a century and as such provide an indispensable introduction to the work of the organization.

Subgroup: Protection Series: Nationality Registry Code: 6/11 (Registry, 1951-1970) Dates: 02-1952/10-1969 Extent: 21 cm of textual records Scope: Series consists of copies of nationality laws, drafts, and amendments; comments by UNHCR on draft legislation; lists of nationality laws; reports on application of nationality laws to refugees, or to specific cases; memoranda regarding circumstances leading to loss of citizenship; notices of court rulings and judgements on specific cases. Some information about naturalization processes in specific countries is available in these files. Files also include some analysis of individual cases. Files are organized by country.
