Ashgabat international conference to discuss problems of refugees and stateless persons in Muslim

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan is preparing for the International Conference "Problems of Refugees and Stateless Persons in the Muslim world", to be held in Ashgabat this month. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov at a regular meeting of the Turkmen government, reported Turkmenistan.ru.

He recalled that the initiative to hold this forum in the Turkmen capital city jointly with UNHCR belongs to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berymukhamedov. The President of Turkmenistan put forward this initiative in his statement at the 66th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The forthcoming international conference will bring together representatives of 57 Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, 21 observer countries, 38 international and intergovernmental commissions.

"As a permanent member of the Executive Committee of the Programme of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Turkmenistan is actively involved in the efforts of the international community by taking specific steps to render assistance to refugees, and Turkmenistan is ready to share its experience in this sphere," Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov said at the meeting.

Reaffirming Turkmenistan's intention to continue this productive dialogue aiming to ensure human rights, safe and dignified lives of people, the President instructed relevant officials to hold the above-mentioned international conference at a high level.
