Extra plane provides boost to Angolan repatriation

The acquisition of a second aircraft has given a significant boost to the number of Angolan refugees able to return home each week from Zambia, with a total of 22,000 now expected to return from Zambia by the end of this year.

Voluntary repatriation of Angolans accelerates as new corridor opens up in the north

Another repatriation corridor has opened up for Angolan refugees returning from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with the safe arrival on Wednesday of a convoy of more than 200 refugees in their home area of Sakandica in the northern province of Uíge.

Trial run paves way for major new repatriation in Africa back to DRC

The UN refugee agency is about to launch a major new repatriation in Africa that could help up to 150,000 Congolese refugees in Tanzania return to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. During a trial run this week, some 280 refugees were repatriated to South Kivu province.

Afghan delegation tours Pakistan to promote repatriation

The Returns Commission Working Group from northern Afghanistan has begun a UNHCR-sponsored tour of all provinces of Pakistan to tell refugees about improving conditions in their home areas and to hear their continuing concerns about returning.

Countdown for Angolan repatriation

UNHCR's largest operation in southern Africa is drawing to a close in the next few months as the last of Angola's refugees return home from the region. Starting next year, the refugee agency will focus on reintegration activities to help these returnees to settle back in their war-devastated homeland.
