URGENT HELP NEEDED TO PROVIDE EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE TO IVORIANS AFFECTED BY THE VIOLENCE

Although the post-election unrest seems to have ended in Côte d’Ivoire, tensions remain high, with some 200,000 people still displaced in the western part of the country. Meanwhile, across the border in Liberia, more than 150,000 Ivorian refugees are living in difficult conditions, waiting for security to improve before they can return home.

To ease the suffering of these people, UNHCR is increasing its presence on the ground and is distributing relief assistance to those in need, including nutritional support to the malnourished, blankets, plastic sheeting, jerry cans, sleeping mats, lamps, buckets, soap and mosquito nets.
