World Refugee Day 2002

What is the UNHCR's ultimate goal? It is, to quote the longest-serving High Commissioner, Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, "To go out of business". In other words, it is to work for the day when the word "refugees" can be erased from the world's dictionaries because the violence that creates them has also been erased.

Why a World Refugee Day?

Just as we make a special effort to remember our mothers on Mother's Day, we want the world's refugees to be remembered on their special day.
