In this crucial year for Afghanistan, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs is proud to be associated with the exhibition "Return, Afghanistan", an exceptional event both by its subject and by its author, the Swiss photographer of Afghan origin Zalmai.

"Return, Afghanistan" is the history of a man who is a witness of the plight of a people with whom he shares his roots and his destiny as a refugee. It is also the history of a man who in Switzerland developed an extraordinary talent as a photographer, an example of artistic ability and successful integration.

"Return, Afghanistan" is also a tribute to the tireless work of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Afghanistan and around the world so that uprooted men, women and children are one day able to go back to the land of their ancestors.

Lastly, we feel very strongly about this exhibition because it deals with Afghanistan, a country for which Switzerland has had a long-standing commitment. We want to see Afghanistan regain a stable, secure and democratic political environment. Our commitment relates not only to the reconstruction of schools, hospitals and archeological sites, but also to provide our support for the return of refugees.

"Return, Afghanistan" will be shown at the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices. Its universal dimension will take it around the world and the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs will be glad to support this initiative.

En cette année cruciale pour l'Afghanistan, le Département fédéral des affaires étrangères est fier de pouvoir s'associer à l'exposition « Retour, Afghanistan », événement exceptionnel à la fois par son sujet et par son auteur, le photographe suisse d'origine afghane Zalmaï.

« Retour, Afghanistan » c'est l'histoire d'un homme qui témoigne sur un peuple dont il a partagé le destin, celui de réfugié. C'est aussi l'histoire d'un homme qui a développé en Suisse un talent extraordinaire de photographe, montrant ainsi ses capacités d'artistes et d'intégration.

«Retour, Afghanistan» est également un hommage au travail inlassable, en Afghanistan et partout dans le monde, du Haut Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés pour que des femmes et des hommes, qui ont dû fuir leur terre, puissent un jour retourner chez eux.

Cette exposition, enfin, nous tient particulièrement à cœur car il s'agit d'un pays, l'Afghanistan, pour lequel la Suisse s'est engagée de longue date. Nous tenons à ce que l'Afghanistan recouvre un environnement politique stable, sûr et démocratique. Notre engagement a trait non seulement à la reconstruction des écoles et des hôpitaux, des sites archéologiques, mais également au soutien pour le retour des réfugiés.
