At its 20^th plenary meeting, on 29 September 1998, the General Assembly, on the proposal of the Secretary-General[1], extended the term of office of Mrs. Sadako OGATA as United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for a period of two years, beginning on 1 January 1999 and ending on 31 December 2000.
