Helping Myanmar's cyclone victims

12 year old Naw Lwai was staying with friends when the cyclone hit her village in Pyin Sa Lu Township. Several people from her village were killed, including her mother.

Naw Lwai is just one of the estimated one million people made homeless by cyclone Nargis. The UN refugee agency has sent in tonnes of shelter materials to Myanmar by air and road.

Giving refugees a place to call home

Giving refugees a place to call home

Emile Belem, UN refugee agency programme officer in Rwanda, works with 55,000 refugees, most of whom live in camps. Some have been there for 10 years.

"It is very important to them that they have a place where they can feel secure and a place where they can shelter, a place where they can be with their families and their possessions, where they are protected from bad weather, where it is easier to provide them with assistance and where they can have their privacy."

Donate to our shelter campaign today and give refugees a home, security and hope for the future.
