High Commissioner António Guterres is scheduled to arrive in Ottawa on Thursday (Nov. 2) for a two-day visit at the invitation of the Government of Canada. It will be his first official visit to Canada. Guterres will pay a courtesy call on Governor General Michaelle Jean and will also meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter MacKay; Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Monte Solberg; Minister of International Cooperation and Minister for La Francophonie and Official Languages Josée Verner; and other senior government officials. Canada has a long commitment to refugee protection and is an important partner of UNHCR.
