Staff Figures
UNHCR's staff are the lifeblood of the organization and about 80 percent of them are based out in the field, helping people of concern on a daily basis. There are currently around 6,650 members of staff, including 740 in UNHCR's Geneva headquarters. The numbers break down into 4,900 national staff and 1,750 international staff.
The second biggest concentration of staff is in our Global Service Centre in Budapest, where some 180 people work, largely in administration. This office was opened in 2008 as part of a reform process to make UNHCR leaner and more effective in the field.
We work in 118 countries, with staff based in a mixture of 108 regional and branch offices, and 151 sub and field offices. Our staff work in a wide range of disciplines, including protection (legal), administration, community services, public affairs, logistics, health and gender.
