UNHCR has an International Professional Roster for entry-level international positions. The aim is to fill these posts with motivated, professionally qualified candidates taking into account the organization's need for gender balance, geographic and linguistic diversity.

Most of UNHCR's work is in the field, often in difficult duty stations. Roster candidates must be prepared to serve in field locations, particularly in hardship and/or non-family duty stations. Generally, all UNHCR international professional staff members are required to rotate to different posts on a regular basis. Entry-level positions are mostly in UNHCR's key functional areas such as international protection; programme; administration; information technology; external relations and field security.

UNHCR is looking for candidates who demonstrate integrity, professionalism and respect for diversity. Recruitment is based on professional experience and educational background; commitment; flexibility; analytical and creative thinking ability; team leadership and communication skills.

The procedures for application and acceptance onto the roster include an exam, interviews, background and reference checks, language test and functional clearance. An invitation to sit the exam is based on a candidate's application.

Due to organizational imperatives, UNHCR has decided not to externally launch the International Professional Roster (IPR) in 2010. We are revising the policies and procedures for the 2012 intake onto the IPR. Information on the revised IPR will be announced on this web site shortly. Please check regularly for updates.
