When asked to comment on the situation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Angola since August 2000, the Associate Director, Legal Affairs, of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Canada responded that "[w]e are unaware of any recent incidents of persecution or mistreatment of Jehovah's Witnesses in Angola since that time" (25 July 2003). He also mentioned that, as of 31 August 2002, the number of active Jehovah's Witnesses in Angola had increased to 48,333 (Watch Tower 25 July 2003).
