Cuba: Information on the Chief of Staff of the Cuban Navy, Captain Rene González Machado, including what his duties are and whether he has been involved in any reported human rights abuses since 1983

The only reference to a Captain Rene González among the sources consulted was in a 21 October 1986 Reuters article which reported that Captain González had received a small Soviet naval fleet during "an official and friendly visit." No information on a Captain González as Chief of Staff of the Navy could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

Cuba: A Country Study states that in 1985 the commander of the Revolutionary Navy was Rear Admiral José Cuza Téllez-Girón (1987). General background information on the Cuban Navy can be found in this publication, available at headquarters' Resource Centre, on pages 259-260.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
