According to a representative of the Embassy of Egypt in Ottawa, in order to receive a passport a person must have been born in Egypt to parents who are Egyptian nationals (Ibid.). The non-Egyptian wife of an Egyptian national can obtain a passport, but the procedures would be very long (Ibid.). An Egyptian asking for a passport must provide an original birth certificate (no copies) and an identification card (Ibid.). A woman requesting a passport or a visa must also provide a written statement from her husband, father or legal guardian (Ibid.). A man must also provide proof that his military service has been completed or proof of his exemption from military service (Ibid.). People who want a passport should go to the Passport and Immigration Department of the Ministry of Interior at Tahrir Square (name of the building) in Cairo (Ibid.).
