Estonia: Information on minimum space requirements for obtaining a residence permit (formerly propiska)

According to the Consulate General of Estonia in Toronto, "there are no longer any minimum space requirments for obtaining a 'propiska' in Estonia" (20 May 1994). This is corroborated by information provided to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) by Estonian government sources (24 May 1994).

For additional information concerning the residence permit system in Estonia and non-citizens, please refer to DIRB Responses to Information Requests EST17270.E, EST17220.E and EST16647.E.

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
