According to Jacques Carpentier, director of the Nanaimo
Immigrant Settlement Society and Refugee Committee in Vancouver,
the Labour Party's racial breakdown was the following before the
coalition: 1,700 Indo-Fijians, 1,000 natives, 300 other races.
English is the most commonly used language of transaction, but
Fijian and Fiji-Hindi are also used by the Party members. The
maximum age for members is 40. The Labour Party has a youth wing
called the Fiji Labor Party Youth Wing (Carpentier 24 Apr. 1991).
