According to a legal representative of the Jehovah's Witnesses church administration in Georgetown, Ontario, there is no policy regarding the issuing of a letter confirming an individual's membership (3 June 2002). Such confirmation letters are not forbidden, although the legal representative stated that such a letter would not normally be given (ibid.). The legal representative stated that such a case would be left to the discretion of the individual congregation (ibid.). The legal representative further stated that he was unaware of any difference in policy in the Georgia or any other country (ibid.). Although the legal representative could not "guarantee this would never happen", he stated that such a letter would not normally be issued, since membership is considered a private and individual matter (ibid.).
