Guatemala: Information regarding a 31 March 1995 demonstration at Guastatoya, involving students and FENESTAG

No reports of a 31 March 1995 demonstration at Guastatoya, involving students and FENESTAG, could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

Please note that no information on an organization named FENESTAG could be found. However, Europa World Yearbook 1998 lists a trade union named Federación Nacional de Sindicatos de Trabajadores del Estado de Guatemala (FENASTEG) led by a secretary named Armando Sánchez. This trade union belongs to the Unidad de Acción Sindical y Popular (UASP), a broad coalition of leading labour and peasant organizations (1998, 1556). Additional information on FENASTEG can be found in GTM26981.F of 12 June 1997, GTM17159.E of 19 May 1994, GTM12080 of 26 October 1992 and GTM5280 of 1 May 1990.

Despite many attempts, the Research Directorate was unable to contact a representative of either the UASP or the FENASTEG for this Response to Information Request.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
