The attached map shows that the village of Vucova Gorica is located less than 20 km west of the city of Karlovac, south-west of Zagreb, near the Slovenian border (Miroslav Krleza Lexicographical Institute 1992).
An official at the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Ottawa stated that Eastern Slovenia and Baranja, both in eastern Croatia, are the only areas under Serb control (9 Apr. 1996). Karlovac and the area sourrounding it are not located in the Serb-controlled regions (ibid.).
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
