Kyrgyz Ex-President Kurmanbek Bakiev
MINSK – Former Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev, who is currently living in Belarus, did not vote in the October 30 Kyrgyz presidential election, RFE/RL's Belarus Service reports.
Kyrgyz Ambassador to Belarus Erik Asanaliev told RFE/RL on October 31 that Bakiev did not register with the embassy as a voter.
"Bakiev has never asked us to include him in any additional voters list either, so he did not take part in the exercise," Asanaliev said.
Bakiev and some of his immediate family members have been living in Belarus at the invitation of Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka since April last year, when Bakiev had to flee Kyrgyzstan following the popular uprising that led to his ouster.
Bakiev and 27 of his relatives and former associates are currently on trial for having fired upon, or having given the command to open fire on, demonstrators on April 7, 2010.
