Russian officials investigate Kyrgyz-Uzbek clash in Siberia

MOSCOW – The municipal authorities in central Russia have launched an investigation into a fight this week between several migrant workers from Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.
Almaz Abdisyaev, legal attaché at the Kyrgyz Embassy in Moscow, told RFE/RL that three Kyrgyz citizens were stabbed in the incident, which took place in the city of Novosibirsk.
Two of those who were knifed have been hospitalized.
Abdisyaev said an Uzbek citizen who allegedly used a knife in the scuffle has been detained.
He said the fight was reportedly triggered by a work-related dispute.
There are tens of thousands of migrant workers from Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in Russia.
Tensions between Kyrgyz and Uzbeks have been high since the deadly ethnic clashes between the two in southern Kyrgyzstan in June 2010.
