The Federal National Council (FNC) and the Federal Supreme Council (FSC) amended the 2 December 1971 Interim Constitution of the United Arab Emirates, drafted with the establishment of the federation, to make it permanent in 1996. This text includes Constitutional Amendment No. (1) of 1996, which was issued by the President of United Arab Emirates on 2 December 1996.
