In a 28 June 2004 telephone interview, the first secretary of the High Commission of Barbados stated that a Guyanese mother could not obtain citizenship in Barbados even if her son was a citizen of Barbados. However, the first secretary explained that the Guyanese mother could apply for immigration or permanent resident status and further noted that this process must be done via correspondence with the immigration department in Barbados (High Commission of Barbados 28 June 2004).
The attached entry from the publication Citizenship Laws of the World provides a summary list of citizenship eligibility for Barbados.
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim for refugee protection.
