Pakistani Taliban say they are holding Swiss hostages

July 29, 2011

Pakistan's Taliban say they are holding two Swiss tourists hostage.

The deputy head of the militant group, Wali-ur Rehman, said on July 29 that the hostages would be released if the United States freed a female Pakistani scientist convicted of trying to kill U.S. security officials in Afghanistan.

The Swiss couple were kidnapped a month ago while on holiday in the remote province of Baluchistan.

In a separate incident, police say gunmen on July 29 killed seven passengers and wounded another 12 people at a bus terminal on the outskirts of Quetta, in Baluchistan province.
