Colombia: Whether suspected members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, FARC) were involved in a confrontation with police in Manizales, Caldas, on 25 July 1999

No mention of a July 1999 incident in Manizales, Caldas, involving suspected members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, FARC) could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

In correspondence dated 18 February 2004, the Head of Archives at the Manizales newspaper La Patria stated that the newspaper did not publish any articles referring to an armed confrontation between suspected FARC members and police in Manizales on 25 July 1999. However, she added that the newspaper did report on a 23 July 1999 incident in Caicedonia, Valle del Cauca, in which one civilian died and two state security forces members were injured when 100 FARC guerrillas belonging to the Victor Saavedra column took control of the town for approximately two hours (La Patria 18 Feb. 2004).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
