Spain: Information on whether a person whose grandparents were Spanish citizens and born in Spain could claim Spanish citizenship
A representative of the Spanish embassy in Ottawa indicated to the DIRB that the embassy is not prepared to respond to the question as formulated above unless more specific information is provided, for instance the country of residence, the date of birth and whether the parents were registered in the country of residence (8 Sept. 1994). The representative added that with this type of information, the embassy would be able to refer to legislation in order to respond to our information request.
This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
