Sudan: Information on the likely punishment for political activities in favour of the banned Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) in the period from 1991 to 1992

Amnesty International reports on the arrest of two members of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) by the government of the Sudan for their alleged role in a military coup attempt (Urgent Action 29 Apr. 1992).

According to Keesing's Record of World Events, the government of the Sudan arrested a number of military officers and civilians including an unspecified number of the leaders of the banned Umma and DUP for their alleged participation in a military coup (Aug. 1991, 38380).

Sudan Democratic Gazette reports on the release of a former DUP cabinet minister after he supposedly promised to seek the DUP leaders' endorsement of the government of the Sudan (May 1991, 109).

An Amnesty International report refers to the hiding and subsequent flight from the Sudan of a DUP supporter for fear of arrest by the Sudanese security service (June 1991, 3).

Additional information on the above subject is currently unavailable to the DIRB.
