Sudan: Documentation required and procedures to be followed by a parent wishing to travel abroad with a minor child in the absence or without the consent of the other parent

In a 14 February 2007 telephone interview, an official at the Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in Ottawa indicated that a Sudanese parent wishing to travel abroad with a minor child requires the permission of the other parent through a written note. In the Official's experience, it is generally the mother who travels alone with the minor child or children, with the written permission of the father; minor children are usually added to the mother's Sudanese passport (Sudan 14 Feb. 2007). The Official was not aware of the documentation required for a father to travel alone with a minor child (ibid.).

According to the Web site of the Embassy of Sudan in Ottawa, the following information must be submitted to the embassy in order for a child to be added to the mother's Sudanese passport: a "letter of agreement" from the child's father, a copy of the father's valid Sudanese passport, a valid Sudanese passport of the child's mother; two passport-sized photographs of the child, a copy of the child's birth certificate and the required fees (n.d.).
