According to a representative of the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Ottawa, the daughter of a Tanzanian man automatically qualifies for Tanzanian citizenship, regardless of the place and date of her birth (4 July 1994). However, the father must submit an application and the daughter's birth certificate directly to the immigration department of Tanzania in Dar-es-Salaam or indirectly through the Tanzanian embassy in the country of the father's residence (ibid.).
The representative emphasized that the procedure is different and more complicated for children born of a Tanzanian mother. She stated that such children do not automatically qualify for Tanzanian citizenship. The woman would have to provide proof of marriage and of her husband's consent to his children's acquisition of Tanzanian nationality (ibid.).
This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
