U.S. Committee for Refugees World Refugee Survey 2004 - Paraguay

Paraguay hosted 30 refugees and asylum seekers at year-end 2003. Approximately 50 Paraguayans sought asylum, about half in Canada and half in the United States. Paraguay recorded eight asylum applications; it granted refugee status to seven and one was denied.

Paraguay has a national refugee law and last year established a refugee commission, known as CONARE. It issued its first decisions last year. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees participates with voice but not vote.
