In a 5 May 2004 telephone interview, the First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey, in Ottawa, indicated that the family identity page that is filled in at the Turkish Birth Registry Office does contain a section entitled "Events of Individuals." In cases where family members have evaded military service, an entry to that effect would indeed be made in the aforementioned "Events of Individuals" section (Embassy of the Republic of Turkey 5 May 2004). Since it is possible for there to be more than one English translation of the same Turkish phrase, the First Secretary indicated that he could not provide the exact English wording of the entry (ibid.). He did, however, say that the entry would be worded in a manner bearing the following effect/meaning: "the person (named) is being sought by the gendarmes or by the police" (ibid.).
