Kawaish Television Network
May 10, 2012, in Lalu Ranwak, Pakistan

A group of armed men shot Tunio, a reporter for the popular Sindhi news channel Kawaish Television Network, in the small office used as the station's bureau in Lalu Ranwak village in the province of Sindh, about 535 miles (850 kilometers) south of Islamabad, news reports said. Tunio's brother, Rustam Tunio, and their friend, Deedar Khaskheli, were also killed, the reports said.

Local journalists told CPJ the gunmen were members of the Mughairi tribe, a rival clan to the Tunio tribal group. Some also said they believed Tunio was murdered because of his story on a failed marriage attempt between two members of the rival clans. However, other journalists have said that Tunio was killed because he was a prominent member of his tribe.

Motive Unconfirmed: CPJ is investigating to determine whether the death was work-related.
