The constitution and governing institutions maintain a free and open press environment. More than 100 daily newspapers offer a variety of perspectives, and most print publications are privately owned. Critics warn that the courts have begun to rule against journalists in cases of libel and the protection of confidential sources. During the past two years, law enforcement officials have detained five journalists in order to compel them to reveal sources in criminal investigations. Satellite and cable television has grown substantially in recent years. Commercial radio continues to hold a large audience. Internet access is open and unrestricted.
