Burundi: Current status of a senator named Benoît Ntaganzwa; whether there were any reports that he went missing in January 2006

Information on the above-mentioned topic was scarce among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate. Benoît Ntaganzwa is one of the senators on a list that was approved by the Constitutional Court for the Transition Senate of Burundi in 2002 (SOS Burundi 29 Jan. 2002; Reseau des Grands Lacs Africains 25 Jan. 2002; Burundi n.d.). His name also appears among a list of senators who signed a document dated 22 October 2004 which was sent to the speaker of the Transition Senate, Libère Bararunyeretse, demanding his resignation (Aburundi.org 22 Oct. 2004).

In 2007, Benoît Ntaganzwa was listed as a participant of a "Key Leaders Workshop," a Burundi Leadership Training Program (BLTP) initiative held in Gitega, Burundi in September 2007, attended by a variety of "key players" in Burundian politics including "four living former presidents" (WWICS 9-12 Sept. 2007). Benoît Ntaganzwa's political affiliation was listed as "civil society" and his role was defined as "businessman, former senator" (ibid.).

Further information on the current status of an individual named Benoît Ntaganzwa, or whether he went missing 2006 could not be found among sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim for refugee protection. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
