Specific information on police corruption and on whether elected officials are able to use the police for their personal means could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate, however, Country Reports 1996 state that "on the whole, the police respected constitutional and legal provisions protecting human rights, but there continued to be infrequent reports of incidents of the use of excessive force by police".
For information on the police in Barbados please consult the Country Reports 1996 available in the Regional Documentation Centres.
