No mention of any ship having caught fire off the West Coast of Canada in 2001 could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate within the time constraints of this Response.

The only information regarding a ship with the name "Ming Chang" found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate was an article on the United States Coast Guard web site. The article reports that a Chinese fishing vessel called "Ming Chang" was seized by the US Coast Guard for illegally fishing within the US boundary line (19 Aug. 2000).
