Chile: Information on an incident involving members of a union of shipyard workers in Valparaíso picketing their company, Report Limitada, in June 1994 and whether the police attacked the picketers

In a 5 January 1998 telephone interview with the Research Directorate, the office manager for Report Limitada in Valparaíso, who has been with the company for 12 years, stated that he is aware of picketing incidents between the company and union members in 1981 and 1985. He is unaware of a picketing incident involving Report Limitada shipyard workers in June 1994.

The president of the Chilean Confederation of Dockworkers, Stevedores and Allied Workers (COTRAPORCHI) corroborated the above-mentioned information, and added that relations between Report Limitada and its unions, which are accredited with COTRAPORCHI, have been cordial and successful (7 Jan. 1998).

Additional information on the above-mentioned subject could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

For additional information on COTRAPORCHI, please consult Response to Information Request CHL27829.E of 4 September 1997.
