A director of Bilateral Relations within the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Co-operation of Rwanda stated during a 16 November 2000 telephone interview that Rwandese embassy in Egypt was opened during the 1980's (a pricise date was not given). He added that the embassy was operating without interruption until November 1999. On 28 November 1999, the Rwandese government took a decision to close it; however, the embassy's activities effectively ceased in March 2000.
A 22 July 2000 BBC report stated that the Rwandese government had decided to close some of its embassies abroad for financial reasons, including its missions in Egypt. The report does not specify when the decision had been taken.
According to The Europa World YearBook for 1992 to 1999, the Rwandese Embassy's address in Egypt was, successively, 23 Sharia Babel, Mohandessin, Cairo (Dokki) (Europa 1999 1999, 1273; ibid. 1998 1998, 1222) and 9 Sharia Ibrahim Osman, Mohandessin, P.O.B 485, Cairo (Europa 1997 1997, 1168; ibid. 1996 1996, 1116; ibid. 1995 1995, 1072; ibid. 1994 1994, 1033; ibid. 1993 1993, 1006; ibid. 1992 1992, 987).
