Egypt: Update to EGY19699.E of 23 March 1995 on exit permits to leave Egypt; procedures to obtain an exit permit; situation of a person who has completed his military service but could be called up for reserve duty

According to a representative of the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Ottawa, exit permits are not required of Egyptian nationals desiring to leave Egypt (16 Sept. 2002). The representative explained that certain government departments could require that employees obtain their written authorization before leaving Egypt, but this is not considered an exit permit and is not a generalized rule (ibid.). Furthermore, no permits are required for individuals who have already completed their military service (their passport is stamped once military service is completed), and those who have not completed their military service could still leave once they obtain permission from the authorities (ibid.). The representative stated that no individual would be denied exit from Egypt based on their ability to be called up for military reserve duty (ibid.).
