Haiti: Whether relatives of exiled former politicians of the Organisation du peuple en lutte (OPL) face ongoing harassment or "persecution"; if yes, what group is responsible for this harassment or "persecution" (2000-2006)

In 13 March 2006 correspondence, a representative of the Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti (IJDH), a non-governmental human rights organization based in the United States, noted that he "did not have information about any persecution of relatives of former members of the [Organisation du peuple en lutte] OPL."

A representative of the National Coalition for Haitian Rights (NCHR), a New York-based coalition of human rights organizations, corroborated the preceding information in a 13 March 2006 telephone interview, stating that he was unaware of "generalized persecution," of former OPL members or their family relatives either by government or by political opponents.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim for refugee protection. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
