Iraq: Information on the groups present in the Mosul (or Mawsil, Mussel, Musil, Mosil, Musal, Musol or Mousl) area of northern Iraq

 

The following information was provided during an 11 July 1997 telephone interview with a journalist covering Iraq for Jane's Intelligence Review. The source travels regularly to northern Iraq.

The source stated that Mosul is controlled by the Iraqi army. Units of the Republican Guards, the regular army and the intelligence services are present in the city of Mosul.
