At least 10 Taliban killed in Afghan school raid

July 17, 2011

At least 10 insurgents have been reported killed when Afghan and foreign troops targeted a group of Taliban who had gathered in an empty school building in the Shewa district of eastern Nangarhar Province.

A local police chief said the insurgents were planning attacks on Afghan and foreign troops in the area.

In a separate incident, gunmen opened fire at a wedding party in the northern Baghlan Province late on July 16, killing at least two guests and wounding at least seven others.

The motives for the attack remain unclear.
