Georgian human rights activists held a rally today in Tbilisi to demand the release of political prisoners, RFE/RL's Georgian and Russian services report.
Nana Kakabadze, the head of the nongovernmental organization Former Political Prisoners for Human Rights, told RFE/RL's Russian Service that the group is demanding the release of some 100 political prisoners in Georgia.
She said that if they are not released by the end of January, the organization plans new protests in February, including hunger strikes and street protests.
Kakabadze said political prisoners are being held on trumped-up criminal charges fabricated because of their participation in protests.
