The army commander in Pakistan's northwestern Swat Valley has been injured after his helicopter came under fire.
The military said Major General Javed Iqbal's helicopter was attacked in Upper Dir district near the border with Afghanistan. It blamed Taliban militants for the attack.
Iqbal was hit in the leg and flown to the capital of Islamabad for medical care. The helicopter was able to land safely.
Police said the incident was followed by an exchange of gunfire between security forces and suspected militants in the area in which no casualties were reported.
So far, no militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack on the commander.
The attack came as FBI Director Robert Mueller arrived in Pakistan for talks with Interior Minister Rehman Malik on efforts against militants groups.
